Managing Third Party Risk After PowerSchool: 60 million Reasons to Rethink Vendor Management
When the largest K-12 cyber incident in history–impacting over 60 million students and 10 million teachers–can be caused by a teenage hacker logging into a vendor’s customer service portal with just a contractor’s username and password, what can states and districts do to protect their students, teachers, and families? What could have happened had the hacker used their access to shut down all of the districts at once, rather than just extorting the victims for money not to release the data?
On Tuesday, June 17 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm ET, join IST for a discussion on how state leaders, local leaders, and policymakers are rethinking their approaches to third-party vendor risk in the wake of the PowerSchool cyber incident. IST’s Senior Director for Preparedness and Response Michael Klein will moderate a conversation with experts focusing on specific policies and practices they are putting in place to dramatically reduce the likelihood of future third-party vendor incidents as well as the impact in case they do occur. The conversation will be followed by a Q&A with questions from the audience.
