Tech 101: Cloud Seeding
Cloud seeding is a weather modification technique aimed at enhancing precipitation by dispersing substances like silver iodide or salt into clouds to stimulate rainfall. Though not new, recent advances in meteorology, drone technology, and atmospheric monitoring have renewed interest in its potential for addressing drought, water security, and climate resilience. These capabilities also have strategic implications for the Department of Defense and national security, particularly in regions where environmental conditions can affect operational readiness and stability.
This introductory webinar will explain the fundamentals of how cloud seeding works, the conditions needed for success, and the materials and methods commonly used. Attendees will explore real-world case studies, current debates around effectiveness and environmental impact, and emerging innovations that are shaping the future of this technology in both civilian and defense applications.
