Since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, artificial intelligence has rapidly evolved into multiple specialized and mission-focused tools. Generative AI, multimodal AI, and agentic AI are no longer just concepts—they’re transforming how agencies approach everything from data analysis to decision support.

Each branch brings unique capabilities and challenges. Generative AI helps automate content creation, multimodal AI enables richer situational awareness, and agentic AI introduces task automation with minimal human input. As government leaders look to modernize operations, understanding the strengths and risks of these AI solutions is critical.

Learning Objectives:

  • Categorize tasks and processes by AI tools most suited to them
  • Outline metrics to be used to evaluate the value of AI applications for each task
  • Review the risks associated with each type of AI tool and methods for mitigating them
