The Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandated that states establish health insurance exchanges (HIXs) to serve as a central marketplace for people to compare health plans based on rates, benefits and quality. States must have these HIXs up and running by January 1, 2014 – less than a year from today.

Every state has now made a decision on how to implement the ACA’s HIX requirement, and federal funding is now focusing on implementation of these exchanges. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded over $3.5 billion in grant funding for the HIX initiative alone -- and there is more to come! Countless opportunities in the HIX arena exist now and will continue well beyond 2014.
