The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) first began its journey back in 2019. After long delays, lack of formal communications by the U.S. Government, and overall fatigue by industry on the topic of CMMC, many businesses remain unready to meet contractual obligations as defined by the FAR and DFARS. As of August 2024, the CMMC rule has now been fully vetted by the U.S. Government and is slated for adoption in CFR 32 and 48 this October.

Speaker and Presenter Information

Matthew Travis is the first chief executive officer of The Cyber AB and assumed this role in April 2021. In this capacity, he oversees all CMMC accreditation and CMMC Ecosystem operations of the organization in support of the Department of Defense.

Previously, Travis served as the first deputy director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the nation's leading civilian cybersecurity agency. There he oversaw the day-to-day operations of then the $2+ billion, 2000+ employee organization across the full range of its mission in cybersecurity, infrastructure protections, and emergency communications. Prior to this position, he was the deputy undersecretary for national protection (NPPD) within the Department of Homeland Security. For his contributions to the DHS mission, he was awarded the Department's Outstanding Service Medal in 2020.

Carter Schoenberg is the Vice President of Cybersecurity and Chief Cybersecurity Officer at SoundWay Consulting, Inc. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Boardroom Qualified Technology Expert (QTE), and a CMMC Certified Assessor (CCA). SoundWay is an approved Certified Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO) and has been helping defense contractors prepare for CMMC and DFARs obligations since 2021. He has over 30 years of combined experience in criminal investigations, cyber threat intelligence, cybersecurity, cyber risk management, and cyber law. His past works include comprehensive assessments of U.S. Government Contractors to align with what are now formal requirements set forth by the Defense Department including NIST SP 800-171 and now the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC).

Julie Keeton Bracker is a founding partner of Bracker & Marcus LLC, a boutique law firm focusing exclusively on False Claims Act qui tam litigation. Based in Atlanta, with attorneys in Washington, D.C., New York City, and Kansas City, Missouri, the firm handles FCA cases nationwide, and was named the nation�s third most prolific qui tam practice by Lex Machina in 2019. Ms. Bracker has had the privilege of arguing before the Sixth, Ninth, and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals and appearing before the Supreme Court of the United States on FCA matters. Representative cases range from an $84.5 million settlement with a Detroit-area hospital for kickback allegations, to a $1.5 million settlement and full repairs with a defense contractor whose defective products were creating a danger to the military. Ms. Bracker currently serves on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee for Taxpayers Against Fraud, the FBA�s Qui Tam Section, the National Employment Lawyer�s Association, and its Georgia affiliate, where she served on the Board from 2013-2015 and as its president in 2014.
