Expert Tactics for Handling CBP Form 28s, 29s, and Prior Disclosures

This event qualifies for 1.5 CCS/CES

Importers of record have a responsibility to use 'reasonable care' when declaring the classification, valuation, country of origin, and use of duty preference programs for merchandise upon entry to the U.S.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) often verifies that an importer is declaring merchandise entered into the U.S. properly by sending the importer a Request for Information, also known as CBP Form 28. Upon receipt of a Request for Information, if an importer determines an inadvertent error took place and an investigation by CBP has not yet commenced, filing a perfected prior disclosure may assist in drastically reducing potential penalties from CBP.

In this webinar, attendees will learn:

  • The who, what, when, and where of importing
  • What pre-compliance means and why it is important
  • Common compliance concerns surrounding the use of reasonable care
  • How to read and understand a CBP Form 28
  • The ins and outs of responding to CBP Forms 28 and 29, as well as protest essentials
  • When to consider submitting a prior disclosure
  • How to mitigate penalties and what penalties require pre-penalty notices

Attendees are encouraged to review Responding to CBP Form 28 or 29 and submit specific questions or topics they'd like to be addressed by the speaker prior to the webinar.

There will be time for a Q&A Session with webinar attendees.
