Complex Catastrophes: Improving Resilience of the Nations Electric Grid
In partnership with ICF International, and as part of the Capstone Series on Cyber Strategy, The George Washington University's Homeland Security Policy Institute (HSPI) will host the Honorable Paul Stockton, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Americas' Security Affairs (HD&ASA). Dr. Stockton will discuss U.S. federal leadership and guiding doctrine as it relates to the electric power grid, the U.S. Department of Defense's (DoD) role, mission assurance strategy, and public-private partnerships.
The electric power grid is vulnerable to physical and cyber threats that could lead to unprecedented power disruptions affecting millions of homes and hindering U.S. defense capabilities. Stakeholders must work together to develop a comprehensive and integrated approach to effectively prepare for and respond to this complex catastrophe. Through this event, the conversation will continue on how to best address these emerging threats. Attendees will draw on Dr. Stockton’s insights to discuss readying the electric grid, preparing for catastrophic attacks, and the role of DoD.
Frank Cilluffo, Director of HSPI, will moderate the event, and ICF's Andy Robinson will introduce Dr. Stockton.
