Tech 101: 5G
Although 5G technology is often associated with the latest smart phone or other commercial applications, this technology also provides significant advantages to the defense sector. The benefits of 5G technology for defense include faster and more reliable communication, improved situational awareness, Internet of Things (IoT) integration, AR/VR capabilities, remote operations, enhanced cybersecurity, and multi-domain connectivity. These advantages contribute to increased operational efficiency, effectiveness, and the ability to adapt to modern warfare challenges. Harnessing these capabilities will serve as a force multiplier for years to come.
This session will cover the fundamentals of 5G networking and the current state of the US and global wireless industries, including how 5G is different from previous network generations, the role of spectrum in network deployments, and how wireless technologies continue to evolve as we look from 5G to 6G and beyond. Attendees will also learn about specific defense considerations, including military uses of advanced communications, and the importance of ongoing wireless innovation to US global competitiveness.
