APIs are such attractive targets because their purpose is to allow two or more applications to communicate with each other. Infecting an API drastically expands the attack surface, but most enterprises do not have transparency into their APIs and don’t understand the risks. One recent report found that API attacks rose a whopping 400% over the six months ending on March 31. Another assessed the “average annual API-related U.S. cyber loss” in the billions of dollars.
