How the NIH Moved to the Cloud: Lessons/Best Practices for Bringing the Cloud Into Your Organization

In 2018, NIH began its journey to the Cloud, both to prepare for the future of research, and to support the STRIDES initiative to reduce barriers to biomedical advances. Nick Weber, Cloud Services Program Manager and STRIDES Initiative Lead, will share lessons learned - from the basic components of moving to Cloud, to the ‘gotchas’ and realizations that enabled NIH to better support its research mission. 

Working with multiple groups across NIH, Nick’s team also created an enterprise-class Cloud offering for NIH to build the organization’s Cloud skills (whether they are deep in IT, conducting or supporting research, or doing more administrative work).

Join us to hear Nick's perspective on how NIH introduced GCP into the organization for cross collaboration and scale. You will hear how NIH has set things up and continues to hone its approach so researchers and others across the organization can take advantage of the services and tools for the greatest impact. Plus, he will share his insights on best practices for security and governance and answer questions along the way.
