NRC HACK Cybersecurity Seminar & Expo
Cyber-attacks at nuclear power plants don't just happen in Hollywood. That's because places with radioactive materials make incredibly tempting cyber targets.
With this real and ever-present threat, the Information Security Directorate of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) works diligently daily to provide technological protection for our nation's people and environment. Part of their comprehensive approach is to convene semiannually for a 1-day NRC Cybersecurity Seminar & Expo with government and industry sessions that focus on what's new and what's next in cyber.
Hosted by the Office of the Chief Information Officer, this event attracts their IT and cyber personnel, as well as their contractors. Internally, NRC promotes the event as "HACK," which stands for "Helpful Applied Cyber Knowledge." Their well-received campaign encourages all NRC technology users to be aware of the impact of their activities on connected devices (both at home and in the workplace) and the threats they may potentially and unknowingly generate.
The virtual 2021 October event had over 500 virtual attendees. NRC executives, including the CIO, CISO and Information Security Director, have all attended each expo for the past 3 years. Attendees from previous events included:
- Developers
- Engineers
- IT Analysts and IT Specialists
- Network Engineers and Mobility Engineers
- Project Managers
- Security Analysts and Security Specialists
- System Administrators
Exhibitors may also attend the sessions.
