U.S. / Canada Border Security Summit
U.S.- Canada Border Security Summit: Benefiting the 501c3 nonprofit Roger Foundation and the RCMP National Remembrance Fund
An “Intelligence-Based” Road Map for Securing and Managing the US – Canadian Border
April 3 -4, 2012: Detroit, MI (Exact Location TBD)
DSI’s U.S. - Canada Border Security Summit is designed as an educational and training “Town Hall” forum, where thought leaders and key policy-makers across US and Canadian local, state, provincial and federal law enforcement offices can come together for actionable discussions and debate. This Summit will focus on the “intelligence-driven approach” that prioritizes emerging threats, vulnerabilities and risks, and enhances our individual and shared border security efforts.
Why should you attend the Summit?
With a border almost 3 times the size of that shared between the U.S. and Mexico, and with a vast degree of difference in topography, the U.S. - Canadian border has its own unique sets of challenges when it comes to securing and managing the border. With over a $1billion dollars in trade per day, it is vital to both economies to manage the flow of goods and persons in an effective and efficient manner without compromising the security of either country.
The U.S. and Canada have been long time partners in border security and management efforts, however the last several years have seen an increased level of interoperability efforts, and shared intelligence efforts, including the "Beyond the Border" Declaration Action Plan of December 2011 between both countries.
Join us for senior level breifings from a diverse speaker faculty including:
- Mark S. Borkowski, Assistant Commissioner, Office of Technology Innovation and Acquisition, U.S. Customs and Border Protection
- Richard Comerford, Regional Director General, Southern Ontario Region, CBSA
- Anh Duong, SES, Director, Borders and Maritime Security Division, S&T Directorate, DHS
- Joe Oliver, Chief Superintendant, Director General for Border Integrity, RCMP
Key areas that you will hear about include:
- Creation of force-multipliers: intelligence-driven enforcement teams designed to increase information- and intelligence-sharing capabilities between U.S. and Canadian authorities that reach "Beyond the Border"
- Emerging investments in technology systems that address security needs for the US- Canadian border, including pre-approved DoD applications
- Interoperable usage of intelligence : intelligence-driven approach prioritizing enforcement activities based on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and risks
- Partnerships with federal, state, local, tribal, and bi-national law enforcement agencies, as well as with the public and private sector
- Northern Border Counternarcotics Strategy/Coordination of port operations/Efficient use of manpower, mobile assets and security infrastructure
- Specific operational needs for Air & Marine
By attending one of our events, you will discover an environment that strives to encourage real discussion and debate among its attendees, while fostering new and continued relationships amongst all in attendance. Our speaker faculty and subject matters are chosen through an in depth process of research, and are designed to provide a full spectrum perspective towards the issue at hand.
