Harmonized Tariff Classification and Origin Determination Under Free Trade Agreements

Harmonized Tariff Classification and Origin Determination Under Free Trade Agreements

The Harmonized Tariff Code (HTS) is the numeric coding system for the import and export of all commodities.  Understanding the hierarchy of classification using the General Rules of Interpretation is essential for making sure your product is classified properly.  You will learn to apply the rules for choosing an import or export code and their impact on rates of duty and trade agreements.

With several free trade agreements in place and more to come, it is essential that exporters have a thorough understanding of how the harmonized system can have a positive impact on duty savings. Attendees will also learn the origin determination process under free trade agreements, including rules of origin, preference criteria, tariff shifts, regional value content and more. The seminar will also review documentation and customs clearance procedures under free trade agreements.  The different documentary requirements for each free trade agreements will be discussed.
