AFFIRM Annual Wine Tasting & Silent Auction Scholarship Fundraiser

Sample wines from South American vineyards in Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay with complementary food pairings (heavy hors d'oeuvres) under the skylights of the Carnegie Institution for Science rotunda on July 12 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. You'll delight in a variety of reds and whites--from Chardonnay to Cabernet and Malbec to Carmenere as you peruse and bid on a variety of silent auction items. Visit http://www.affirm.org/wine-tasting-2011 for a full list of pairings.

Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit AFFIRM’s Scholarship Fund. Some highlights from the auction are:

  • Once in a lifetime experience in a F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Flight Simulator
  • Dinner with former White House Correspondent Helen Thomas
  • Getaways, including a week-long rental in Las Vegas
  • Dinner certificates at top DC restaurants, such as Capital Grille
  • Tickets to Great Grapes!, a wine and art festival
  • Golf lessons from Joy Bonhurst, LPGA Teaching Pro at Top Golf
  • Be a live in-studio guest at Federal News Radio for The Federal Drive with Tom Temin and Amy Morris
  • Dine with media superstar, Chris Dorobek, at his beautiful new Northwest Washington, D.C. home with a meal prepared by a celebrity chef in Chris' gourmet kitchen

If you've never been to the Carnegie Institution for Science building at 16th and P Streets, near Dupont Circle, you are in for a treat. This 1905 design by Carrere and Hastings, designers of the New York Public Library, The Cosmos Club, and the Russell and Cannon Buildings, rises majestically from 16th Street in Neoclassical splendor and is both convenient and beautiful.

The event's proceeds support AFFIRM endowments at Syracuse University and University of Maryland University College that provide critical funding to students pursuing careers in technology.
