BGOV OTA Spending On The Rise

The use of Other Transaction Authority (OTA) has more than doubled in the past five years, to $2.3 billion in fiscal 2017 from $1 billion in fiscal 2012, according to a Bloomberg Government analysis. As more agencies recognize the benefits of using OTA, such as access to nontraditional contractors and faster acquisition processes, they may ramp up OTA spending even more. As spending increases, it becomes more important for contractors to track.

In the past, the use of OTA, and its relief from many of the laws and regulations associated with government contracting, has had many benefits, but there have been some bad experiences that have led Congress to tighten the reins.
