Innovations in Trenchless Technology

This event qualifies for 1-2 ENG

Understand the application and design components of Horizontal Directional Drilling as it applies to your project.

Horizontal Directional Drilling has been associated with numerous utility strikes, cross bores, damage to adjacent infrastructure, overlying settlements, and loss of drill fluid to the surrounding environment. These issues have led to costly catastrophic failures and regulatory noncompliance project shutdowns. However, pipeline, telecom, power, and municipal infrastructure owners and engineers need trenchless construction options such as Horizontal Directional Drilling to rehabilitate, replace, and create new infrastructure. Trenchless construction offers higher utility density in restricted corridors, mitigates impacts to existing utilities and social impacts, and is a Green Technology. Horizontal Directional Drilling advances in design and equipment permit this trenchless technique to responsibly install underground pathways from two inches up to and exceeding 60 inches in diameter and lengths exceeding 5,000 feet including in urban areas. This topic helps owners and engineers understand the design and construction process associated with Horizontal Directional Drilling. Furthermore, this content will provide the basic design equations and example calculations demonstrating the purpose of developing adequate baseline data and assumptions necessary to support a successful Horizontal Directional Drill design and construction.
