New Capital Providers for Water Infrastructure Funding Webinar

This webinar will provide a summary of new and emerging capital financing alternatives for the water industry, including public–private partnerships, various new bond alternatives (e.g., green bonds, century bonds, catastrophe bonds, tax exempt facility private activity bonds), and government-sponsored programs, such as WIFIA and the Build America Investment Initiative.

The applicable uses, advantages, and limitations of these financing alternatives will be discussed with case studies provided.  The webinar will help water utility managers assess these financing options’ suitability for their organizations.

Water utilities in North America need to continue to make capital investments in utility infrastructure to address aging infrastructure, secure future water resource needs, and address regulatory requirements.

Although ultimately customers of a utility system typically pay for the cost of capital investments through user charges, limited budgets and customer affordability concerns can limit the capacity of utilities to pay for capital investments using conventional funding and financing options, such as pay-as-you-go funding, municipal bonds (revenue or general obligation), notes, state revolving loans, and bank loans.

Alternative and emerging financing options could potentially help to lower utility borrowing costs, lower total project life-cycle costs, minimize a utility’s debt burden, or reduce and minimize financial risk.

The webinar will help water utility managers better understand merits and limitations of various new and emerging financing options and help them assess their suitability and relevance for their organizations.
