Confused about Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems? Learn All You Need to Know Webinar
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) recognizes the increasing use of residential fire sprinkler systems and encourages that they be designed by licensed or accredited professionals and installed by licensed fire sprinkler contractors or properly trained personnel. The design of a system requires communication with the utility so that available water pressures and flow to the residential fire system can be determined and the design can meet the utility's requirements.
These residential sprinkler systems are unlike traditional commercial fire sprinkler systems, and they provide special challenges to water utilities. Challenges include establishing equitable rates, accessing proper cross-connection policies, sizing and arrangement of water meters, and designing the water distribution system. This webinar will answer common questions water utilities may have when dealing with these systems. All content will be consistent with the latest AWWA manuals, including M31, M14, M1, and M20.
Jurisdictions are adopting residential sprinkler ordinances, and water utilities must become familiar with the specifics of these systems in order to develop policies regarding rates and charges, backflow prevention, and general acceptable arrangements and sizing of service lines.
Residential fire sprinkler systems for one- and two-family dwellings are unlike traditional sprinkler systems or domestic systems. In recent years, AWWA has updated its manuals to specifically address these types of systems. This webinar will help utilities understand the basics of these systems and become knowledgeable with the AWWA manuals that specifically deal with them (e.g., M31, M14, M1 and M20). This Webinar will provide the water purveyor with information on the topics that need to be addressed in preparing a jurisdiction for residential fire sprinklers.
Learning Objectives:
- Know the basics of residential sprinkler systems for one- and two-family dwellings.
- Recognize how residential fire sprinkler systems impact water suppliers.
- Apply AWWA M14 recommendations concerning potential cross-connections of these systems in order to ascertain proper backflow prevention guidelines.
