Communications Counseling Step by Step, presented by Marisa Ellison, MBC

You probably already know it, but your leadership or colleagues probably don't . . . a major service you provide in your professional environment is communications counseling. No need for a Ph.D. . . . just the know-how to help your agency understand the importance of communication and what it can do to help get work done more easily, efficiently, and effectively.

During this 40-minute webinar, Marisa Ellison, Communications Manager for the Missouri Department of Transportation, will walk through some of the steps she takes when she provides communication counseling to her colleagues, especially those that help her gain leadership buy-in for communications planning.

So sit back, relax (a little), and take note of the practical suggestions Ms. Ellison brings to this month's Webinar Wednesday session.

(A preview to Lie Down & Relax – Your Communications Counseling Session Is About to Begin, presentation to be given Thursday, June 9 at the 2016 NAGC Communications School in Washington, D.C.)

Speaker and Presenter Information

Marisa Ellison, MBC

With diverse experience in the areas of law, manufacturing, government, and health care, those who know her can attest to Marisa's professionalism, resourcefulness, and creativity. She has also been known to be decisive, yet patient. After all, it took her seven years to attain her Masters of Business Communication degree online . . . hey, it was on dial-up Internet . . . give her a break!

This experience, however, allowed her to continue to gain experience and apply academic learning to practical on-the-job skills. Her undergraduate degree is from Hannibal LaGrange University in business, and, again, she was patient as she worked full time, raised a family, and attended school in evenings and weekends. Her “real” college experience came at a young age when she attended Northeast Missouri State University and received a legal associate’s degree.

Currently, she is the communications manager for the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Northeast District, responsible for all internal and external communication needs within her district and statewide. She also works closely with leadership to develop and implement communication strategies for public involvement and citizen engagement efforts on all transportation projects. Marisa currently serves as the membership and volunteers director for the National Association of Government Communications and has been involved with the organization for 10 years. (And, she loves competitively running!)
