NPDES Stormwater Permitting and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Guidance

This event qualifies for varied ENG, CC, CPESC

Learn best practices and tips and tricks for NPDES permitting and SWPPP guidance.

Nationwide, storm water is a leading source of water pollution. Contaminated storm water runoff harms drinking water supplies, hinders swimming and fishing, and negatively impacts ecosystems. Cities, states and the EPA are placing an increased emphasis on managing storm water discharges from industrial facilities, construction sites and municipalities to reduce pollution of our nation's waterbodies. To manage pollution from runoff, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) storm water program regulates storm water discharges from municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s), construction activities, and industrial activities through a permitting process. Permits require industry, developers, states, and local governments to take steps to reduce pollution in runoff, through developing and implementing plans (e.g. SWPPS, SWMPs, etc.) and Best Management Practices (BMPs).

This topic will inform you about regulatory compliance with NPDES storm water discharge regulations and provide information for development and implementation of an effective storm water plan. Further, enforcement examples will be discussed to help prepare you for an inspection or audit focused on Clean Water Act compliance. Best practices, including tips and tricks, for successful storm water management in industry, at construction sites, and throughout municipalities will be discussed. It is critical for those responsible for implementing storm water permit requirements to avoid potential violations and fines.
