FITARA’s the hot thing in Federal IT. Not just another buzz phrase, the new CIO empowerment law requires that agencies’ top IT execs sign off on all IT procurements. But, as Spider-Man tells us, with great power comes great responsibility – so there’s some trepidation. And, because it’s a law, agencies are legally required to submit their assessments, GAO will generate reports, and the Hill will hold hearings. So, FITARA won’t get swept under the carpet – like so many of the other IT mandates.

We’re on the eve of the first FITARA deadline, August 15th. Agencies are legally required to provide their self assessments to OMB. MeriTalk will release a new study, the FITARA On the Frontlines, on August 10th. The study will provide quantitative metrics on awareness, compliance probability, and perspectives. So, the timing is right for OMB and Federal IT leaders to convene to talk about progress to date, opportunities, and the roadmap moving forward.
