Give Me 5: Special Unit - Construction. The Fundamentals of the FAR, Part 2

According to an American Express OPEN survey, small business owners in the construction industry are among the largest cohort seeking federal contracts (investing $172,058), while the average small business owner will spend $128,638 on contract applications. Working with the federal government offers small businesses in the construction industry many growth opportunities, but the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) imposes an extra layer of requirements for these businesses to be awarded a contract. The FAR is a set of requirements that the government must follow when awarding contracts to ensure purchasing procedures are standard, consistent and conducted in a fair manner.

As Part 2 of a three part series, the Give Me 5 program is hosting a free webinar on February 25, which will discuss how the government decides who to award contracts to, specifically determining which bidder will yield the best value and tradeoffs that need to be met. The webinar will be instructed by Jennifer Horn, partner at Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC and Maria Panichelli, associate at Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC. Part 1 of the series focused on tips during the bidding process for small businesses in the construction industry.

The Give Me 5 program was created by American Express OPEN and Women Impacting Public Policy in 2008 to help women business owners get a leg up on selling to the world’s largest customer:  the U.S. government.
