USGIF presents �NIEM: How It�s Changing Acquisition, Collaboration, and Your World�

The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) is a community-driven, standards-based approach to exchanging information across organizations. Initially started as a grassroots effort at the state and local levels, NIEM is now being used at varying levels of maturity in all 50 states and 19 federal agencies.

Of particular significance from an acquisition and interoperability perspective, the Department of Defense signed a letter of intent in March 2013 to adopt NIEM as the DoD-wide sustainable business model for information sharing that supports the DoD Data strategy and the Joint Information Environment. DoD adoption of NIEM offers potential improvements in Mission Effectiveness by enabling effective information sharing across the DoD and with our mission partners. DoD is joining a diverse set of users from a vast array of communities, to include law enforcement, biometrics, cyber, and many others.

Attend this luncheon discussion panel, chaired by ODNI’s Program Manager of the Information Sharing Environment, Kshemendra Paul, to learn more about NIEM and its relevance for acquisition and interoperability challenges. You’ll hear viewpoints from DoD, NGA and ODNI seniors about adopting NIEM, the role of NIEM in information sharing and the potential for interoperability.
